Doubledouble showcases how beautiful custom-made furniture, design and art can be when there is a continuity in the design.
Our client is a collector and very specific about the use of space - every inch of her house is thought-through and she has a keen eye for design and art.
She chose to contract doubledouble for their very sleek and natural design, gave us total artistic freedom which enabled us to enhance several areas of the house:
- a bespoke wall unit combining a fitted build-in wardrobe and workspace
- the revamp of a simple wooden bed by screen printing on a made-to-measure headboard
- design and creation of a wooden sculpture acting as a cabinet unit , made with faceted cuts creating a shape reminiscent of a diamond : an eye-catcher in the bathroom
- conception of furniture for two children´s bedrooms : conversion of classical furniture into play units combining usage with relevant storage. We used plywood, played with harmonising colour schemes when varnishing the pieces. The custom-made shelves form a staircase leading onto the wardrobe, where the child can sit and observe his room from above. Halfway to the top of the climb, we constructed an open typesetter box so that the child could store his treasures and favourite bits and bobs. In the wardrobe construction we created a gap/a hole that can be sat in, again offering a creative way of being in the space.
- study of children´s wall paintings: inspired by the child´s abstract drawing we reproduced a pictorial interpretation for their room. By doing this the child´s imagination was triggered and a place was created where they liked to dwell and dream.
